Indian Air Force (IAF) Commission :- Indian Air force offers two ways of commissioning to join these air forces.

Permanent Service Commission (PSC) :- A Permanent Commission means a career in the Air force till the age of retirement of officers

Short Service Commission (SSC) :- Short service commission are appointed for a limited time period in Indian Air force.

 Indian Air Force Branches Available For the Candidates to Join :-

  • Flying Branch
  • Technical Branch
  • Ground Duty Branches

How to join IAF in the flying Branch after Graduation? Modes of Entry :-  There are 3 modes by which a candidate can join the IAF. They are given as below :-

  • Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE)
  • National Cadet Corps Special Entry ( Through CO NCC Unit / DG NCC )
  • Flying (Pilot) Short Service Commission (For Men & women) with Term of Engagement of 14 Years with no further extension

Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) Entry

Candidates can join Indian Air Force through CDSE Entry under the Permanent Commission. Generally, the notification for recruitment is published in the month of June and October through UPSC.

Eligibility criteria of CDSE :- 

Age Limits:

  • Age of candidates applying under Flying Branch should be between 19 years and 23 years.
  • Age should be calculated from commencement of course.

Educational Qualification to Joining the Indian Air Force as Officer

  • Graduation (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University.
  • Passed with Physics and Mathematics at 10 + 2 level.
  • BE, B. Tech Four year course from a recognized university of India.

Final year students can also apply with a condition to produce Degree certificate within the stipulated time frame mentioned in the notification.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) Special Entry

Male candidates who are possessing Air Wing Senior Division C Certificate of the National Cadet Corps will be eligible to apply for Flying Branch Officers in Indian Air Force under Permanent Commission. Generally, its notification does not get published. Candidates have to apply through their respective Air Squadrons/ DG of NCC.

Eligibility criteria:

Age limits:

Candidates who want to apply through this gateway should be between 19 years and 23 years of age. Commencement of batch will be the reckoned date of age calculation.

Educational Qualification to Joining the Indian Air Force as Officer

  • Graduation (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum aggregate marks of 60 % in all papers.
  • Passed Physics and Mathematics at 10 + 2 level
  • BE, B. Tech Four year course from recognized university with 60% aggregate marks in all subjects
  • Should possess NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ Certificate

Final year students can also apply with the condition to produce Degree certificate within the stipulated time frame mentioned in the notification.

SSC (Short Service Commission) Entry

Men as well as Female candidates who want to apply for Flying Branch can opt for AFCAT Entry option through Short Service Commission. Candidates selected under this commission will be enrolled for only 14 years with no further extension. Generally, notification of AFCAT is released by IAF in the months of June and December every year.

Eligibility criteria:

Age Limits:

  • Candidate’s minimum age should be 19 years
  • Upper age limit of candidate should be 23 years
  • Upper age limit is extended up to 25 years in case of candidates holding valid and current commercial pilot license issued by DGCA (India)
  • Age should be calculated from commencement date of Batch.

University Entry Scheme (UES) Entry

Male candidates appearing in pre- final year of Engineering Degree can apply for this UES Entry Scheme. Candidates will be selected under Permanent Commission in the Technical course of IAF. Selection of candidates will be done on campus and they will be called for AFSB (SSB). Usually this notification is issued during December of every year.

Eligibility criteria:

Candidates should be unmarried and citizen of India.

Age limits:-  Candidates should be between 18 and 28 years of age.

Educational Qualification:- Candidates should be appearing in pre final year of BE/ B Tech degree with aggregate 60% marks in all subjects on completion of this course.

Educational Qualification to Joining the Indian Air Force as Officer
